My mommy confession for today...

My crafty mama heart usually sings when one of the kiddos wants me to knit or stitch them something. Until youngest asked me to cross stitch him a dump truck pillow that he can sleep with. He's young enough that bigger still means better. So I'm imagining a bed-sized, cross-stitched pillow~~yikes!!!

So fast forward through 6 months of 'occasional' reminders and him asking "when are you going to make my pillow?" and my responses of "sometime", which really mean "probably never~~ and I hope you'll forget soon!" And we reach the day of enlightenment~~he wants a small pillow, like the one hanging on a keychain that I made for oldest last summer!

Relief and such joy! I can quit being a bad mom and make this thing that youngest wants without having to commit myself to the nearest psychiatric ward! So hand in hand we go to my favorite quilt shop for backing fabric. And we find a really cute TRACTOR fabric that youngest likes, LOL!

Next day I begin stitching the tractor pillow......and youngest sits on the floor in front of me watching. I put the stitching down and get up to get a drink and he asks, "are you done?" I resume the stitching and the little hawk is now peering over my shoulder and breathing down my neck. I get up to go to the bathroom and he exclaims, "you're getting up again???" Sheesh, all he needs is a whip! Finally, I've got that monkey off my back and he's happy and he said he was going to take really good care of it (without my prompting, LOL!)

Middle wants one with a racecar......

I had to giggle at your story. When I quilted (long long time ago) my son asked me to make a quilt for him with a blue man jumping into blue water. Thankfully, he forgot about it after a while. He is almost 19 now.....

I love this finishing technique! And what a relief to not be stitching a huge pillow!

Oh, so cute. Love it when they want you to do something for them. They think they are so special when you get it done. Maybe they can now learn to do things for Mother when she asks for it. LOL.

Love the pillow, looks wonderful. My 6 year old daughter has a looong list of things she wants me to stitch for her, so I completely understand!

Cute tractor!
My grandson asked for a JCB digger. The only chart that featured a digger that I could find was one of a building site complete with men in yellow helmets, half built buildings and piles of bricks! It took me hours, it was solid x-stitch about 10" x 8" with lots of back-stitching. Talk about a labour of love - still Jack loved it and then his cousin Thomas saw it and of course he wanted the same one so of course I could not say no. I am never never stitching it again!

Staci,

What a cute picture your words painted. I'm so glad he decided on a small pillow. Those big pillows are a big time consumer. I did a Dora pillow for my DD and her hair alone had well over a thousand stitches in it.

Staci,
A very cute story about your sons. You've made a great job on the tractor pillow. I am looking forward to seeing a racecar project. Good luck!

The tractor story (and finished piece) is adorable! Luckily you didn't have to break out a big chunk of 6 count Aida for the project. My weakness is making Halloween costumes.....talk about some wild imaginations. Half the characters my niece and nephew tell me about I have no idea who they are...so is that animal, vegetable or mineral? I made a "Wicked" witch costume. No, not the witch from Wizard of Oz, that would be to mundane. It had to be the witch from the Broadway musical "Wicked", based on the Wizard of Oz.
